Computer science is an often confused technological field that encompasses so many things – therefore making it hard to narrowly define or characterize it. Computer scientists have played integral roles in all modern technological devices and functions from driving a car to doing laundry, making phone calls, shopping, and more. Computer science has revolutionized almost every aspect of modern life including the business, education, and information world (buying and selling, information requests, research, etc.) or in design and manufacturing processes and logistics.
Roughly defined, computer science is the study of systematically structuring problems and finding algorithms with which they can be solved. By algorithm we mean a set of instructions that can be performed (electronically or mechanically) routinely and precisely. So essentially computer science is the study, discovery, generation, development, and enhancement of such algorithms and the platforms on which they are run.
